Our History

Serving the Quad Cities For Over 30 Years

Recycling metal is as important in today’s world, as it was hundreds of years ago when it first began. It was this idea of recycling metal, that led Del Shumacher to get into the recycling industry in 1956 after he returned from the Korean War. Del Shumacher, and his wife Wanda, opened Del’s Metal Co. in 1986. Prior to this, Del had owned two other recycling facilities. Since Del’s Metal Co. has opened, we have been a family owned and operated business. Del and Wanda’s daughter Christina shares the same passion for the recycling industry that her parents had. Christina’s husband Tommy helps to carry on the legacy with her that her parents started. Christina and Tommy are honored to have the privilege to carry on what meant so much to Del and Wanda.  In 2017, Christina and Tommy’s daughter Breanna joined the team at Del’s Metal. So we are currently on our second generation, with a third generation already coming in, and hopes of many more generations to come. We see everyone as family here, from our employees, to our customers. Del’s Metal Co. has always offered competitive and fair prices for the scrap metal we buy. Here at Del’s Metal Co., we take immense amounts of pride and integrity in what we do, and the business we have created to this day. We look forward to what we do, and the new customers we get to meet every day. With the simple idea of recycling metal in 1956 from Del Shumacher, has led us down 63 years of a continuous passion for scrap metal, and the entire scrap industry. We hope to see you at our scrap yard to give you a pleasant, and wallet fulfilling experience while doing some good for the environment by recycling. Thank you!
